Ingredients
- ½ cup butter, softened
- 1 ¾ cup brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- ½ cup carob powder
- ½ cup water
- 2 ½ cup flour (white or wheat), sifted
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp instant coffee
- â…” cup buttermilk
- 1 ½ tsp vanilla
- â…” cup chopped nuts
Instructions
- Cream shortening (butter) with sugar well.
- Add eggs, beat until fluffy.
- Blend carob powder with water. Stir into creamed mixture and mix well.
- Combine dry ingredients separately, sifting three times.
- Add dry ingredients a little at a time, alternating with the buttermilk. Blending after each addition.
- Add vanilla and nuts.
- Pour into 2 8" greased cake pans. 350℉ for 30-35 minutes.
